“Nano” is not only unimaginably small, but also quite unique – a world in which dimensions of a millionth of a millimetre matter, and laws of physics apply that are different from those we normally deal with. There are now 54 teams from the natural sciences, engineering and medicine working under the umbrella of the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen (CENIDE) on fundamental research and the potential applications of nanotechnology.
