Research focus

Owing to many technical and physical challenges encountered at the higher field strength, the 7-Tesla MRI technology has so far been limited to a handful of research institutes throughout the world and has primarily been used for investigations in the field of neuroscience. One of the main goals of the Erwin L. Hahn Institute, above and beyond high-field neuroradiological MRI, is to extend the advantages of 7-Tesla technology to the entire body and facilitate its widespread dissemination. The main research topics include high-field MRI of the brain (structural and functional), high-field MRI for non-neurological applications (structural and functional), high-field MR spectroscopy including non-proton MR spectroscopy, and development of radiofrequency antennas for MRI signal transmission and reception.

In addition to providing a unique research infrastructure for various groups from the two founding universities, the Institute practices an open-door policy granting access to institute facilities to both academic and industrial partners.
