Academic Programmes

With its consecutive academic programme in medical biology (MedBio), the University offers particularly gifted high school graduates the chance to acquire a unique education in the area of basic biomedical research. While the students obtain instruction in medical subjects at University Hospital, the biological subjects are offered at the Essen campus. The more than 1500 applicants for the 28 places in the bachelor’s degree programme demonstrates the strong interest in this research area.

The first students graduated with bachelor’s degrees this year and switched over to the recently accredited master’s programme. The new postgraduate programme gives especially dedicated students a chance to complete their scientific education in Essen with a PhD degree. Within the M.Sc. programme in chemistry the specialization in “medical-biological chemistry” that includes classes and practical courses at University Hospital has been established for many years and is chosen by about half of the chemistry students.
