The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) addresses topical issues from the perspective of economics, business administration and informatics. Central to its work are the structures and processes and the information and communication systems of companies and organisations. The energy industry, health, trade and services, the automotive industry, IT companies, auditing, and tax and business consulting are special areas of interest.

The structure of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics reflects the demands of interdisciplinary scientific inquiry into topical research questions by combining the disciplines of Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, and Business Information Systems in a single faculty. Collaboration across disciplinary boundaries is encouraged not only through interdisciplinary research projects but also in joint teaching modules. This constellation, which is exceptional for German universities, offers many opportunities in research to bring together scientific expertise on different problems and overcome disciplinary fragmentation. Selected examples of research collaboration taking place across disciplines and institutes are presented in the following sections.
