Mercator School of Management

Outlook

When it was first established as part of the former Comprehensive University of Duisburg, the Faculty had a strong orientation towards practical application. In the course of the past 30 years, however, it has grown into a research-active institution. The cooperation and projects with industry that go hand in hand with an applied science are accompanied by excellent publications and challenging externally funded work as the present research objectives of the MSM. In terms of development and size, the MSM has achieved outstanding results in research rankings over the past few years and is now set to consolidate this trend in the future.

In the more recent past, the area of Logistics and Traffic has emerged alongside East Asia as a further research concentration at the MSM. Work in this area centres on the Chairs of Prof. Alf Kimms and Prof. Michael Manitz and the Technology and Operations Management department with its other chairs. Logistics and Traffic is also part of the UDE’s Main Research Area of Urban Systems. The MSM has set itself the goal of extending this work and in the medium term establishing a further research focus for the future.
