Institute of East Asian Studies

At the Institute for East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) scholars conduct research on the societies and economies of East Asia. Since its founding in 1994, IN-EAST, the largest institute devoted to contemporary East Asian research in the German-speaking countries, has achieved an impressive reputation with its interdisciplinary studies on economics, politics, society, geography, history and culture. The approximately 30 scholars at IN-EAST conduct research on topics of intense current interest, with special attention to topics in China, Japan and Korea. The Doctoral Programme in East Asian Studies and the research-oriented MA Programmes attest to the close links between research and teaching at the Institute.
