Institute of East Asian Studies

Outlook: Strengthening Interdisciplinary Research on East Asia

IN-EAST has become well established as part of the East Asia research community with its approach to area studies, which is firmly rooted in economics and social sciences, during the 20 years since its founding. With its new projects, in particular the IN-EAST School of Advanced Studies, the Institute intends to open up more towards different disciplines in order to ensure that East Asia’s increasingly important role in the world is also reflected in research. By cooperating with disciplines outside economics and social sciences, initiating new research on East Asia and linking existing East Asia activities, IN-EAST aims to contribute to the UDE’s strategy of establishing East Asia as a research theme in all its faculties, and in so doing to further stimulate activity in area studies in Germany and beyond.(www.uni-due.de/eastasia)
