Engineering

For this department, too, it is only possible to present a small fraction of the collaborations currently underway.
A long tradition of collaboration exists between the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering and the University of Massachusetts/Lowell, USA, in the application of probabilistic methods in geotechnical engineering, e. g. for the rating of bridge foundations on highways. Collaboration also exists with the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, on the design of offshore wind-farms in the US. The Institute of Construction Operations and Construction Industry works with the same university as well as with Stanford University, California, on the simulation of construction management. The Institute of Urban Water and Waste Management has strong ties with regional companies, particularly in joint projects with Emschergenossenschaft und Lippeverband, Ruhrverband, AGR, several industry partners such as Bayer AG, Currenta and Lambda, and a number of other long-standing partners. One major collaboration was the result of the BioGaSS project, in which the Steel Construction Institute LBG in Ascot, Great Britain, and several partners from Belgium, Spain and Finland are taking part.
In Water, international collaboration exists with the University of Hong Kong (Urban Water and Waste Management), the University of Portland (City Planning and Urban Design) and Portland State University (Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management), both in the US. The Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management also collaborates with Wuhan University, the Chinese Academy of Science for Aquatic Ecology and the research department of the Japanese Federal Ministry of Building (PWRI). In 2012, a development collaboration took place with the University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and Fayoum University, Egypt along with several institutions in Iran and Indonesia. These collaborations were also funded by the DAAD.
