Research

Following receipt of the first notifications of funding for our projects from the BMFSFJ, at the beginning of 2018 the first employees began work on the new projects: “ReNeEd: Research Needs in Education”; “MigTex: Text resources for migration and integration research”; “MigTrans: Migration, Social Transformation, and Education for Democratic Citizenship”. In addition, DeZIM institutes have been supported by networking units in exchanging and developing common research ideas. The MigTrans project was organised by Dr. Eveline Gutzwiller-Helfenfinger, who was also responsible for organising the 2018 InZentIM Annual Congress together with Hermann Josef Abs during a guest professorship at the UDE: “Migration, Social Transformation, and Education for Democratic Citizenship”. This congress was attended by numerous UDE scientists and other experts from Germany and abroad, including Prof. James A. Banks (USA), Prof. Farhad Khosrokhavar (France), and Prof. Joel Westheimer (Canada).

Other projects in InZentIM’s field of research include the projects of its members, which are financed by the DFG, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the EU. They focus on, for example, norms and values in the European migration crisis, the voting behaviour of Germans with a migration background, the individual consequences of international migration throughout life, and the specialist teaching of newly arrived immigrants.
