Awards and Distinctions

We are particularly delighted that from the ranks of our young scientists Dr. Sauro Civitillo has recently been accepted into the Global Young Faculty (Stiftung Mercator/Universitätsallianz Ruhr) and the College for Interdisciplinary Educational Research (CIDER). Aylin Karabulut, a member of the InZentIM board, was awarded the sponsorship prize of the 2019 Augsburg Science Award, and in winter 2019/2020 she travelled to the USA with a Fulbright Scholarship for a research visit.

InZentIM is growing. We have been able to participate in the preparation of three endowed and five WISNA professorships; these professorships will be associated with the Centre. We will involve them in our programme development and executive-board work. It is important to us to support their involvement and to strengthen integration and migration research at the UDE with them. The first of these associated professorships (Prof. Philipp Jugert: Intercultural psychology – migration and integration) began their work in 2018, and three more have since been appointed (Prof. Helen Baykara-Krumme: Sociology with a focus on migration and participation, Prof. Stephan Scheel: Transnational cooperation and migration research, Prof. Sebastian Otten: Economics, especially the labour market, migration and integration).

New to the Centre is guest scientist Dr. Halyna Leontiy. She worked as a research assistant for sociology in Konstanz, carried out research on “Migration and Comedy” at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen, and in 2016 moved to the Centre for Gender and Diversity Research at the University of Tübingen. During her time at InZentIM she will draw up European linked research proposals and participate in InZentIM debates and initiatives.
