Since its foundation in 1985, the Institute has focused on the cross-border quality of migrations, with particular emphasis on the situation between Germany and Turkey. In the age of modern communication and globalisation, transnational space will continue to gain in importance and is changing the way in which migration and immigrant integration are thought about. The discussions about German-Turkish relations and at the same time intensive personal and civil-society interrelationships demonstrate the topicality and necessity of this research perspective.
