The Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Research (IZfB) is a central scientific institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). Its fundamental goal is to promote educational research and corresponding development projects, and the publication and transfer of research findings. In order to reflect the major importance of basic research as well as applied research for transfer and practice in the education field, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Research works with educational issues on a broad academic and scientific basis.

The IZfB was established in 2016 and is a centre for more than 200 scientists working in the field of educational research. It offers them a platform for discussion of shared research interests and potential cooperation, and it encourages new research projects. Researchers working in the education of the subjects biology, chemistry, German, history, mathematics, physics, general studies, social sciences and technology, and researchers from educational sciences, the humanities, social sciences, engineering, economics and political science, psychology and medicine are members of the IZfB and collaborate on research projects with a focus on education. The IZfB networks ten faculties of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
