Urban Systems

Around 70 researchers from all eleven faculties of the University of Duisburg-Essen have joined together in the Main Research Area Urban Systems to find solutions to the complex problems and challenges of metropolises and megacities in the 21st century. Many central issues of urbanity and metropolis research can only be explored from multiple perspectives and on an interdisciplinary basis, since purely disciplinary and sectoral approaches no longer suffice to match the sheer complexity of urban systems. Cooperation between the most diverse academic disciplines and cultures is therefore a feature of many of the ongoing projects in this area. This cooperation varies in constellation depending on the type of project and issue in question.
