Cooperation and International News

In addition to its own international fellows, the Centre has brought together many other respected international researchers and experts for its lectures and workshops in Duisburg. In May 2013, for example, the KHK and the School of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Queensland, Australia, organised an international workshop at which researchers from both institutes met with scientists from INEF and DIE and a series of other national and international institutions to discuss problems of global cooperation in the context of peacebuilding. Another successful international workshop, “Transcultural Constructions of Global Legitimacy”, was held at the Centre under the “Building Global Democracy Programme” and conducted by the former Senior Fellow of the Centre, Prof. Jan Aart Scholte, in November 2013. Ten experts from various parts of the world, among them India, Tonga and China, and from different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds, discussed how global cooperation can be achieved in cultural diversity. The Centre has also taken part in international conferences, such as the 8th Pan-European Conference on International Relations in Warsaw in September 2013, to which it contributed a section on “Democratizing World Society: Post-national Perspectives and Opposing Views”. The Centre also organised two panels at the “Human Security: Humanitarian Perspectives and Responses” conference in Istanbul in October 2013.
