Training programmes for young scientists

The training programmes within the Research Training Groups and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (BIOME) are supplemented by an exclusive mentoring programme for PhD students, which was set up in 2011 and extended for a further three years in 2013. Five Nobel Laureates from chemistry and medicine were secured as guest professors; each year, the professors select doctoral students to mentor, and they hold lectures at the UDE. The mentoring programme is an excellent opportunity for the students to communicate one-on-one with highly experienced and successful scientists. The programme is supported by Prof. Robert Huber (1988 Nobel Prize), Prof. Harald zur Hausen (2008 Nobel Prize), Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn (1987 Nobel Prize), Prof. Erwin Neher (1991 Nobel Prize) and Prof. Kurt Wüthrich (2002 Nobel Prize).
