Institute of East Asian Studies

At the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) of the University of Duisburg-Essen, scholars conduct interdisciplinary research on current social, political and economic developments in East Asia. The regional focus is on China, Japan and Korea. Since its founding in 1994, the Institute of East Asian Studies has become the largest university institute of contemporary East Asian research in the German- speaking countries. In its Research Training Group “Risk and East Asia”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2009, and in its researchoriented Master’s programmes, the Institute closely combines top-level research and teaching.
