The proposal for a nanoenergy technology centre under the acronym NETZ was one of the winners of the “NanoMikro+Werkstoffe.NRW” competition of the Ministry of Innovation,Research, Science and Technology (MIWFT) in North Rhine-Westphalia. The NETZ project is supported by the UDE’s Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen ( CeNIDE ) and coordinated by Prof. Christof Schulz. Cooperating partnersare IUTA, ZBT, MPI-K, H2-Solar GmbH (both in Mülheim) and the WWU Münster.
A consortium headed by IUTA is one of the twelve winners of the MIWFT’s cutting edge technology contest, “Hightech NRW”. Partners include the Institute of Combustion and GasDynamics (Prof. Christof Schulz), the Institute of Thermal Process Engineering (Prof. Dieter Bathen) and the German Textile Research Centre North-West (DTNW, Prof. Eckhard Schollmeyer).
As research intensifies in the up-and-coming area of Interactive Systems and Media, the number of collaborative projects between computer science and psychology is set to rise significantly.
In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectric Circuits (IMS), research in Ambient Intelligence, Assisted Living and SmartEnvironments will be extended. A professorship for Embedded Systems will be occupied jointly with Fraunhofer for this purpose. The field is alsodirectly connected to the UDE‘s other main areasof research, Urban Systems, and Medical Biotechnology.
Existing computer science and psychology resources in Interactive Systems and Media are to be pooled for a proposed Research Training Group on the theme of “Formal Models and Analytical Methods for Interactive and Cooperative Systems”.
Aspirations to increase research activities at the Department of Civil Engineering are not only a matter of improving performance, but also of continuing and consolidating the positive trend of recent years in external funding.
