Institute for Energy and Enviromental Technology

IUTA researchers working in Future Energy Supply also achieved some major successes in 2008/2009. The "Hydrogen storage in Sodium Aluminium Hydrides" project developed in close cooperation with the Max-Planck-Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim (Prof. Ferdi Schüth) won the "Wasserstoff.NRW" competition and will receive 900,000 euros in sponsorship in the coming years.
A proposal for removal of carbon dioxide from power plant exhaust gases achieved similar success. The state government of NRW is providing over 3 million euros to fund a mobile absorption plant that will be used at various power stations to test the removal of this greenhouse gas under real conditions. This work is being undertaken in close collaboration with the Chair of Environmental Process Engineering and Plant Design at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Prof. Klaus Görner) and the TU Dortmund (Prof. Hans Fahlenkamp).
