Stiftung Universitätsmedizin Essen(Foundation for University Medicine)
The Stiftung Universitätsmedizin Essen was launched to promote world-class research, training of doctors and superior healthcare at University Hospital Essen into the future. For the first time, a German university hospital and a medical faculty have entered into a joint venture, with the professors making their own financial contribution to the Foundation. This commitment is unique amongst German universities. The Stiftung Universitätsmedizin Essen supports projects that go beyond basic medical healthcare and advance innovative research.
China cooperation
The Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen has been working with several universities in China since 1981. Cooperationbetween the UDE’s Medical Faculty and Tongji Medical College in Wuhan and Beijing Medical University was established to intensify German-Chinese exchange at various levels. Every year, between six and ten medical students from Essen visit China, while four Chinese students come to Essen. The contact person is Prof. Michael Roggendorf.
Cooperation with the University of Pittsburgh
A close cooperation exists with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and enables upto five scholarship holders to research in the US for between 18 and 24 months. This cooperation is to be extended in 2009 to allow Americanscientists to come to Essen. The contact personis Prof. Stephan Lang.
